Composizione sacra a quattro parti attribuita a John Dowland e attestata nella raccolta The Whole Booke of Psalmes, pubblicata da Thomas East nel 1592.
O God of power omnipotent, and goodness infinite;
Whose name is more than excellent, and works all exquisite.
Enlarge our hearts, our mouth, our tongue, a special token of thy love,
That thou in greater store we have (which passeth all),
Mayst have thy worthy song; a Prince whose nobleness doth prove
Her self heroicall.
For showering like the drops of rain, thou blessest for her sake,
From out thy bounteous hands, with peace and gospel’s truth;
Thy power upon us amain, her foreign enemies all do quake,
Her lands to hear what England doth.
Do thou her battles ever fight, and strengthen up her hand,
That all the world may say by right, God dwelleth in her land;
And bless her with a length of days, make all her study be
To serve thy Majesty always in pure sincerity.
And keep us that our sins do not her happy days make less,
For then full soon will be forgot our former happiness;
Direct her in thy righteousness, and shield her with thy grace,
And grant her subjects fail not in any case.
